Who are the role models for teenage girls? Rockstars? Actors? Athletes? How about strong and independent women? How about female business owners? How about Holly Palin! As both a strong and independent female business owner, Holly is engaging, intelligent and beloved by the athletes she coaches. Hence it seemed logical that Holly not only share her field hockey skill sets, but lead her student athletes to become the best they can be, athletically and as individuals.

Black-Tiger Performance, www.blacktigerperformance.com, through its Athletic Department has partnered with The Francis W Parker School to create a Field Hockey program for young female athletes in grades 5-12. Designed to provide skill development both mentally and physically, each session for the three month program engages and challenges the athlete in an effort to maximize their potential.  This partnership is designed to support increases in the participation demand of the sport while creating the ability to engage in sport specific activities during non competitive months.

Flashback….It’s early June, 2011. Holly Palin stands on the Turf Field at Montrose Harbor. While the weather is tolerable, the temperature is very hot on the turf surface. Yet this does not slow the opening of camp. Registration is almost complete. At last count, over 70 girls have checked in for this special one week performance Field Hockey Camp. With limited notice and without much fanfare, Black Tiger Performances’ first camp is a major success.

The demand is high to participate in Coach Palin’s program. A former Division 1 Field Hockey player at Northwestern, Holly is not only well skilled, but extremely personable and engaging.  ”Young female athletes need role models and skilled instructors. Holly is both,” stated Geoffrey Ruttenberg. Holly, as an Owner of Black Tiger Performance with Geoffrey Ruttenberg and Neil Curran, relishes this opportunity to share her knowledge and love of the game. “I started coaching and training athletes because I could not imagine my life without sports playing a major part. I love being a coach and having the opportunity to help people of all levels of athleticism and fitness discover their potential and find their inner athlete.”

2013. Present day. The demand for Coach Palin continues to be high, so much that Black Tiger Performance and The Francis W. Parker School have teamed up to provide yet another round of clinics. Beginning now,  January 2013 and running through March, and then both organizations will launch another joint effort, this time a one week camp in June 2013. Coach Palin, “I am thrilled so many young athletes have enjoyed the experience and want to continue their development and progress with us. As a coach, this means we have established a solid environment that balances between skill set development and fun. “

“We have experienced a great deal of continued interest as it relates to our Field Hockey Clinics.  We wanted to provide current and prospective athletes one final incentive prior to the end of the school year to enhance and refine their skills in an overall effort to make participation in the sport more enjoyable, accessible and competitive,” said Geoffrey Ruttenberg. It’s also a great opportunity to spend some time with Holly, whose  energy and enthusiasm is infectious! 

Located at the Francis W Parker School in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, the clinic provides centrally located access and solid facilities for its participants. With an open enrollment for the public, Palin sees the clinic “as a step in the right direction for the sport, and an opportunity to make future participation enjoyable and meaningful to a younger audience.”

The program spans three months, stretching from January through the end of March, 2013.
